The New York Times asks some stellar authors (Eggers, Foer, King, Ephron, LeGuin, and more) what they have been whiling away the hours with so far this summer. Lots of fantastic recommendations across a metric ton of genres.
I just started Wolf Boy, by Evan Kuhlman, so I’m going to truck through that and Miranda July”s No One Belongs Here More Than You before I start anything else. I’ll just tuck these keen suggestions away for a bit and pull one out later.
Oh, and all of those might have to wait now that I just realized that the Karen-Traviss-penned Legacy of the Force Book 5 is out. It’s the first Star Wars series have followed since Kevin J Anderson’s Jedi Academy Trilogy, and it’s been quite good so far, with Traviss’ entries especially dense and well-constructed. I feel like I missed a lot by avoiding the New Jedi Order series, but I grabbed some audio books and read some wikipedia entries to get up to speed. I know, it’s terrible to love such ridiculous, pop-culture garbage, but some light reading over the course of an evening or two never killed anyone, did it?
